C’River: Gov Otu pledges to meliorate sport in the state, commend sport commissioner

In a significant approach to melioration of sporting activities beyond leisure, but rather becoming a business for revenue generation for the State, the Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has assured Cross Riverians of returning Cross River State back to it’s excellent placement in sporting activities and administration.

The Governor made the pledge today, during the ground breaking ceremony of the Calabar stadium resort, where he maintained that for sports to remain a stimulant of revenue for the State, proper infrastuctures must be put in place to enhance sporting activities. reiterated that the unique edifice to be built in the Stadium arena will enhance sporting activities in the State.

Governor Otu also extolled the Commissioner of Sports development, Hon. Agnes Atsu and her team for their remarkable achievements in the sports ministry, while he charged the structural developers of the resort, Square builders Nigeria Ltd and Edulumen Nigeria Ltd to adhere to the polity of the State and ensure the building of a well grounded edifice for the State.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Agnes Atsu, Commissioner of sports development lauded Governor Bassey Otu’s approach to developing sports which has led to improved athletic activities in the State and has earn the State numerous Laurels. She elucidated that the objective of the Calabar sport resort and hotel is to develop the first Cross River State commercial sports resort and hotel as a legacy project of His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu.

The Sports Commissioner disclosed that her ministry is ready to give credence to ideas and collaborate with the private sector to promote sports, further stated that the Stadium resort will attract international hosting rites, develop grassroot sports and generate revenue for the State.

Highlight of the event was the foundation laying  done by the Governor His Excellency Sen.Prince Bassey Otu in company of his deputy, Rt. Hon Peter Odey, The speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Elvert Ayambem, The Honourable commissioner of Sports Development Hon. Agnes Atsu, The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Commissioners, The development partners, other appointees of Government.
