The 196 Councillors of Cross River State have expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for approving and ensuring the payment of car grants to all Councillors across the 18 Local Government Areas.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Cross River Councillors Forum, Hon. Princess Magdalene Ekpe, the councillors described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and improving the welfare of elected representatives at the local government level.
The Forum noted that the car grant payment reflects the Governor’s “responsive and people-first leadership” and his administration’s dedication to inclusive governance.
“We deeply appreciate Your Excellency’s commitment to the welfare of public office holders. This intervention is commendable and worthy of emulation,” the statement read.
The Councillors also pledged their loyalty and support to the Otu administration, assuring that they will work towards the successful implementation of government policies and programmes aimed at the sustainable development and prosperity of Cross River State.
“We assure Your Excellency of our continued support as we join hands to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people at the grassroots,” Hon. Ekpe stated on behalf of the 196 Councillors.
The Forum concluded by thanking the Governor for what they called a “generous and impactful intervention” that will enhance the effectiveness of legislative duties at the local government level.
