The University of Cross River State has suspended two students from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and  Department of Physics, for security breach on Wednesday, April 3, 2025, within the Calabar Campus of the University.

The affected students are Charles Mbinghi Ogar and Emmanuel Ogochukwu Obi.

The suspension as conveyed in a letter signed by the University Registrar, , Mr Victor Ene, dated April 5, 2025, states that after investigations and eyewitness accounts, it was revealed that their actions not only endangered lives but also caused widespread panic, commotion, and disruption across the Campus.

“Academic activities, particularly the examinations scheduled for the day, had to be suspended abruptly as Students and Staff fled for safety while they and their accomplices fled the scene.

The statement further said their “action constitutes a gross violation of the University’s rules and regulations as outlined in the Students’ Handbook and the Code of Conduct, including but not limited to:

1 Possession and use of dangerous weapons on Campus.

2 Threat to life and physical assault.

3 Disruption of scheduled academic activities.

4 Conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

“In view of the gravity of these infractions, and in line with the provisions of the University’s disciplinary guidelines, the University Management has resolved as follows:

1 They are hereby suspended indefinitely from the University with immediate effect.

2 They are completely barred from entering or participating in any academic or social activity within any campus of the University.

3 Their case has been formally referred to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution where necessary.

4 The University shall await the outcome of the police investigation, upon which further internal disciplinary action will be taken.

“Please note that non-compliance with this directive will attract severe consequences, including possible expulsion and criminal prosecution.
